Wallace joins as Health and Wellness Coach
(Omaha, Nebraska) – Momentum Foot and Ankle Wellness Center announced the addition of Shannon K Wallace, M.S. as Health and Wellness Coach. In this role, Wallace will assess patient lifestyles, address health concerns and partner with patients to incorporate lifestyle medicine and create a plan to make healthy changes in order to promote health and wellness. Health coaching and lifestyle medicine involve the use of evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as a whole food diet, regular physical activity, adequate sleep, stress management and avoidance of risky substance use to manage or decrease the risk of chronic disease and conditions.
“We take a great interest in the overall health of our patients, especially when lifestyle habits and chronic diseases impact feet and ankles,” said Dr. Eric C. Palmquist, President. “Adding Wallace to our practice is a natural evolution of our wellness center.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Preventions report chronic diseases and conditions such as heart disease, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, smoking and obesity are among the most common, costly and preventable of all health problems.
• As of 2012, about half of all adults (117 million people) had one or more chronic health conditions. One in four adults had two or more chronic health conditions.
• Seven of the top 10 causes of death in 2014 were chronic diseases. Two of these chronic diseases—heart disease and cancer—together accounted for nearly 46% of all deaths.
• During 2011–2014, more than one-third of adults (36%), or about 84 million people, were obese defined as body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 or greater.
• Diabetes is the leading cause of lower-limb amputations.
• 80% of all healthcare spending in the United States is tied to chronic diseases and conditions and the health risk behaviors that cause chronic disease.
Wallace received her undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She completed her Masters of Science in Health and Wellness Coaching with an emphasis in Lifestyle Medicine from Creighton University and is a member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine
